Dodgers Offensive Woes Continue

On Tuesday evening, the NL West first place Dodgers lost to the NL West third place Arizona Diamondbacks by a score of 7-3 in a game in which they managed only six hits in front of a less-than-pleased Dodger Stadium crowd of 46,180.

“We couldn’t get to (Diamondbacks starting right-hander Brandon) Pfaadt early and ended up losing a ballgame,” Dodgers manager Dave Roberts astutely told reporters postgame when asked about his team’s missing offense against Pfaadt. “So, I thought we were gonna get him, I thought, early on, we had a chance to get his pitch count up, and, umm, you know, got through that first inning, and then he just sorta got comfortable, and, I don’t know. Wish I had an answer for that one.”

Us, too.

Ironically, Roberts’ team got their first (unearned) run on a fourth-inning lead off double to left field by Dodgers superstar designated hitter Shohei Ohtani, who promptly stole third base and scored on a throwing error by D-backs catcher Gabriel Moreno. It was Ohtani’s team-leading 17th double of the season and his team-leading 12th stolen base of the season.

The Dodgers second run came on a sharp single to right by (wait for it…) Dodgers designated hitter Shohei Ohtani in the bottom of the sixth, to score Dodgers left fielder Miguel Vargas from third base.

Ohtani’s 34 RBIs are second-most on the team to only Teoscar Hernández‘s 37.

The Dodgers third (and unfortunately final) run on Tuesday night also came in the sixth inning on a double to center by Dodgers All-Star catcher Will Smith to score (wait for it…) Dodgers designated hitter Shohei Ohtani from second base, following his team-leading 13th stolen base of the season.

Smith and Ohtani accounted for three of the Dodgers six hits in Tuesday’s 7-3 loss to Arizona.

As for the Dbacks runs, three came on a 409-foot three-run home run to right-center field by former Dodger Joc Pederson in the top of the seventh inning to make it 7-3 Snakes. Although there was no noticable show of emotion by the former popular Dodger, you know he really enjoyed that one. It was Pederson’s sixth home run of the season.

The news wasn’t all bad on Tuesday. Although the Dodgers didn’t gain any ground on the NL West second place San Diego Padres or the NL West fourth place San Francisco Giants, they didn’t lose any ground either, as both division rivals also lost their respective games on Tuesday, so there’s that.

Well Grove made it trivial when he crapped himself in the 7th, but, Kike and Pages striking out with a runner at 3rd with less than two outs was a major failure.
