Frustrating

During the course of the 2023 MLB regular season, April 21 will hopefully be remembered as the low-water mark for the Los Angeles Dodgers in another championship season. But for Dodgers fans, it was a frustrating experience watching professional hitters flailing away and pitchers getting rocked as though they were purposely throwing batting practice to opposing hitters.

It looked like the Cubs were taking batting practice off of Dodgers pitchers on Friday, including this third inning solo home run by former Dodger Cody Bellinger. (SportsNet LA)

While professional athletes seemingly have the capacity to put embarrassing losses far behind in their rear view mirrors, fans are left with visions of inept performances from players who are expected to play the game at elite levels. As Vin Scully would sometimes remind fans, “Good is not good when better is expected.” That quote should resonate amongst Dodgers fans and players alike after the Chicago Cubs humiliated the Dodgers by a score of 13-0.

The 2023 Dodgers roster is the responsibility of Andrew Friedman, the team’s President of Baseball Operations. For good or bad, this is Friedman’s team, and so far it has resembled the metaphorical Forest Gump box of chocolates, not knowing which team is going to show up for any particular game.

Fans’ patience is definitely being tested during the first three weeks of the 2023 season, with frustration mounting as they watch poor quality of play by several of the Dodgers players. For now, fans can only hope that this group of players will work through a poor start to the season and become a cohesive, championship team.

Go Dodgers!
