Judge Wars

You certainly do not need a degree in computer science to realize that despite this being the so-called Hot Stove season, there really isn’t a whole lot happening in the baseball world right now, especially over the Thanksgiving holiday. But as is normally the case with out beloved National Pastime, there is always some news.

Unfortunately for Dodgers fans, much of that news lately has been centered around our generation’s Babe Ruth – 30-year-old four-time All-Star, three-time Silver Slugger, 2017 American League Rookie of the Year, 2022 MLB MVP and seven-year New York Yankees veteran outfielder Aaron Judge negotiating with several MLB teams.

As Dodgers fans know, it has been (very) widely reported that Dodgers President of Baseball Operations Andrew Friedman has been in contact with Judge, although details of that contact have been extremely sketchy and mostly rumor based. Regardless, it has Dodgers fans (and the entire baseball world) on proverbial pins and needles waiting for confirmation that Babe Judge will (or will not) be wearing a Dodgers uniform come Opening Day 2023 on March 30.

Will Aaron Judge be wearing a Dodgers uniform on Opening Day 2023?
(Paul Connors)

What has Dodgers fans (and the entire baseball world) constantly refreshing MLB Trade Rumors on their computers, laptops, and cellphones is the fact that it has been heavily reported that Judge was scheduled to meet with former Dodgers General Manager and current San Francisco Giants President of Baseball Operations Farhan Zaidi on Tuesday. But here again, details of that reported meeting have also been extremely sketchy and mostly rumor based.

While many believe that no one could or would possibly outbid the New York Yankees for their first-round draft pick in 2013 out of California State University, Fresno, with whom Judge has spent his has spent his (thus far) entire seven-year MLB career, Judge was born and raised in the small California town of Linden, which just so happens to be (about) 96 miles due east of Oracle Park (formerly AT&T Park, formerly SBC Park, formerly Pac Bell Park) in San Francisco, which, of course, means that he grew up a Giants fan, so there’s that.

At this point, all we can do is keep refreshing our computers, laptops, and cellphones in hopes that Judge ultimately chooses to play for the team that has won the National League West Division nine times in the last 10 seasons.

I would rather sign Trea or one of the other star shortstops than Judge.

      Happy Thanksgiving!

That is a very tough call considering that Judge is one of the elite run producers in MLB. But I don’t think the Yankees (or Giants) will be outbid for Judge.

    • Ron Cervenka says:

Sadly, I believe that Trea Turner’s days as a Dodger Blue are over.

I think a blockbuster trade is in order. Maybe a SS and a starting pitcher.
We could reset the financials with a trade and still win the division. Also everyone forgets the trade deadline can accomplish many things for short term needs.
Say we got Burns Adames and took Wong. Adding less payroll than trea alone. Then we sign Haniger for the outfield.
    Lineup
    Bettsrf
    Thompson CT3 Outman cf
    LF Haniger ct3 Thompson
    3b JT and Muncy
    Ss Adames
    2b Wong ct3
    1b Freeman

    Lux brewers insisted on
    Busch Pepiot Grove and whatever.

    • Jesse Pearce says:

Anything is possible, and Adames at SS would be a good acquisition for a fair package of players/prospects. but I don’t hink the Dodgers will trust an outfield of Haniger, Thompson, Outman, Taylor — or even Vargas for a full season.
