Albert Pujols ‘Looks Fast’

It’s no secret that new Dodger and future Hall of Famer Albert Pujols is a slow runner.

VERY slow.

In fact, over his brilliant 21-year Cooperstown-bound career, the beloved and highly respected 41-year-old Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic native, has a total of 115 stolen bases, and only five over the last three seasons and none with the Dodgers.

So when the veteran first baseman/designated hitter legged out a double on a ground ball off the glove of San Francisco Giants shortstop Brandon Crawford and into left field on Thursday night in front of a COVID-19 sold-out Dodger Stadium crowd of 16,343, it drew quite a reaction from fans and especially from his teammates.

“It was awesome. Albert was scootin’ a little bit. I honestly saw him; he was scootin’,” Dodgers infielder Max Muncy said with a chuckle, following the Dodgers 4-3 win over the Giants. “He had some new shoes on out there, and they definitely made him look fast. So it was a lot of fun for us.”

Off the bat, Pujols’ leg double looked like a routine 6-3 groundout.

Little did anyone know that his new shoes had rocket boosters in them.
