by Ron Cervenka With their dominating 7-2 win over the Texas Rangers on Sunday evening, the Dodgers won their 11,000th game in franchise history, the second-most in MLB history behind only the Giants (11,165) and tied with the Chicago Cubs. These numbers, of course, include the Brooklyn and Los Angeles Dodgers and the New York and San Francisco Giants.
But the Dodgers achieved another milestone on Sunday at Globe Life Field in Arlington, TX; they finished the month of August having hit 57 home runs to set a new National League record for most home runs hit in a single month … and they had Monday, August 31st, off.
During Sunday’s interleague contest with the AL West fourth-place Texas Rangers, Messrs. Corey Seager, Will Smith, and Cody Bellinger slugged their ninth, fourth, and 10th home runs, respectively, to bring the Dodgers monthly home run total to 57 to set a new single-month National League home run record. The MLB record is a ridiculous 74, set by the 1974 New York Yankees.
During those 30 (of 31) Hot August Nights (and days), the Dodgers hit home runs as follows:
Bellinger’s record-setting blast came in the top of the third inning and traveled an estimated 375 feet, landing in the empty seats in straightaway right field.

August was a great month for the Dodgers and here’s hoping it will continue through September. I have to admit though, the Padres give me a scare.
Thoroughly impressed with the HR totals thus far. It’s frightening to think what the totals could be next year during a full, 162 game schedule. The rest of the League is being put on notice.
