Rumors of Canceled MiLB Season False … For Now

It is journalism’s Golden Rule and the cause of many immediate job openings in the field, if you get my drift:

“It’s better to be right than to be first.”

Joe Doyle, whose Twitter profile reads – “Contributor at @BaseballAmerica, @LookoutLanding, @ProspectsLive, and @OperationSports | #GoCougs | MLB Draft | Minor League Baseball | Pay prospects,” – was first.

Late Wednesday afternoon, Doyle posted this on Twitter:

Doyle broke journalism’s Golden Rule. He may have been first to report that the 2020 Minor League Baseball season had been canceled, but according to Jeff Lantz, Senior Director of Communications for Minor League Baseball, he was not right.

According to this official statement received by ThinkBlue LA at 4:42 PM (PT) on Wednesday afternoon, Joe Doyle’s rumor is false. (Image courtesy of MiLB)

Oops.

In his defense and despite MiLB’s official statement, there is still a strong possibility, very strong, in fact, that Doyle’s false rumor could indeed happen. And rest assured, if it does, we will all hear about it.

Stay tuned…
