It’s Now a Best-of-One Series

The 2019 World Series will be remembered for many things, the least of which is (unfortunately) that the Dodgers were not in it.

From a baseball fan’s perspective, there is nothing, absolutely nothing, better than a World Series going seven games. Oh sure, if your favorite team is in it, a four-game sweep might be preferred … as long as you are on the right side of that sweep, that is. But when you take a step back and realize that when the final out of Game-7 is recorded, there will be NO baseball activities that Dodger fans can watch in person until pitchers and catchers report for spring training on February 11, 2020 at Camelback Ranch – and that’s a rather sobering thought.

It is difficult, if not impossible, to argue that the pitching throughout this year’s Fall Classic has been nothing short of spectacular. Yes, heading into Game-7 there has been a combined 55 runs scored on 108 hits (including 19 home runs), but the pitching performances by Astros starters Gerrit Cole, Justin Verlander, Zack Greinke, Jose Urquidy, and Nationals starters Max Scherzer, Aníbal Sánchez, Patrick Corbin, Joe Ross and especially Stephen Strasburg have been absolutely incredible, not to mention the phenomenal pitching by each team’s bullpen – Fernando Rodney notwithstanding.

Although the 2019 season didn’t end as Dodger fans had hoped, Game-7 on Wednesday night should be a great one. It is, after all, now a one-game/win-or-go-home series.

…and then a brutally long winter.

Play Ball!
