ICYMI: New Dodger Joe Kelly to appear at Jan 6 charity event

Former Red Sox right-hander and newest Dodger Joe Kelly has added his name to the growing list of players scheduled to appear at the third annual Daniel Robertson Family Foundation FanFest event, set for Sunday, January 6, 2019 at Performance Fitness-Athletes, 1253 W. 9th St., in Upland, California from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Kelly, who was born in Anaheim, California, was selected by the St. Louis Cardinals in the third round of the 2009 MLB First-Year Player Draft out of nearby UC Riverside. He spent three seasons with the Cardinals before being traded to the Boston Red Sox at the July 31 trade deadline in 2014.

The Dodgers signed the 30-year-old hard-throwing right-hander – who completely shut them down during the 2018 World Series, allowing no runs and only four hits while walking none and striking out 10 in his 6.0 innings pitched – on December 21 as a free agent to (hopefully) become a set-up man for Dodgers closer Kenley Jansen; a position that the Dodgers have desperately needed to fill since losing right-hander Brandon Morrow to free agency following the 2017 season.

As noted, the Daniel Robertson Family Foundation FanFest event will be held on January 6. And while many of the players scheduled to attend are currently in the minor leagues, a number of them have already played in or will soon be playing in The Show. Additionally, the DRFF has announced that there will be a “Special Mystery Guest” at Sunday’s event.

It is the mission of the Daniel Robertson Family Foundation to help families while the adult breadwinner or family caregiver is receiving treatment for a cancer diagnosis or other disease. Their goal is to promote awareness of the importance to plan for unanticipated lapses in work due to illness and the treatment needed to heal.

Tickets for the third annual Daniel Robertson Family Foundation FanFest event can be purchased in advance on-line for $10 each through January 6, 2019, or at the door for $15, with all proceeds going to help those in need.
