Question: Who is the last MLB player to hit five home runs in his team’s first three games of a season?

Answer: There isn’t one because it has never happened before – until Wednesday night, that is.

Through the first three games of the 2015 season against the San Diego Padres, Dodgers first baseman Adrian Gonzalez has hit five home runs, including three in Wednesday’s 7-4 win over his former team in front of a sold out Dodger Stadium (52,204), thus becoming the first player in the 146-year history of Major League Baseball to do so.*

“It’s cool. Obviously something like that is always cool to be able to accomplish,” Gonzalez said when asked what it felt like to do something that no other baseball player has ever done. “You’ve just got to thank God because for me everything happens because of God. I’m just grateful to be able to do it.”

Gonzalez hit home runs in the first, third and fifth innings of Wednesday night’s game. His third (pictured above) made him the only player in MLB history to hit five home runs in his team’s first three games. He also added an RBI single in the sixth inning to go 4 for 4 on the night with 4 RBIs.

In addition to boldly going where no man has ever gone before, AGon also became only the third Dodger since 1914 (aka – the “Modern Era”) to hit a home run in each of his team’s first three games, joining Carl Furillo in 1955 and Jimmy Wynn in 1974 (also against the Padres). He also became the first player since 1963 to collect three hits in each of his team’s first three games, joining San Francisco Giants Hall of Famer Orlando Cepeda as the only other player to do so.

Needless to say, Adrian Gonzalez had himself a game.
