Kemp & Kershaw Make Second Consecutive All-Star Team

The 2012 American League and National League All-Star Teams were unveiled Sunday afternoon and for the second consecutive year, Dodger center fielder Matt Kemp and pitcher Clayton were named to the National League squad.

Matt Kemp and Clayton Kershaw have been named to their second consecutive All Star Game which will be played on July 10 at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City.

Kemp, who had been the National League’s top vote getter until landing on the disabled list twice in as many months and who is questionable to play in the game, finished third in the outfield voting behind Melky Cabrera of the Giants and Carlos Beltran of the Cardinals. Even if Kemp does not participate in the game itself, he will participate in the 2012 State Farm Home Run Derby on Monday, July 9. Kemp is the National League Home Run Derby captain. Kershaw was selected to the 2012 National League team by manager Tony La Russa. All pitchers are selected by their league’s respective All-Star team managers.

The 2012 All-Star Game will be held on Tuesday, July10 at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City. Here are the complete 2012 All Star Game rosters:

I love that Clayton is a Dodger. I do feel, that as good as he has been, he is not quite right, perhaps his Plantar Fasciitis.

In any event, I am wondering why Clayton got picked with five wins and Capuano didn’t with nine wins. What happened last year has no bearing on this year’s selection or at least it shouldn’t

There is a rule in place (and it’s a relatively new rule) that states that if a starting pitcher is scheduled to pitch on the Sunday prior to the All-Star Game, he CANNOT pitch in the All-Star Game – no exceptions. That being said, Capuano (and anybody else in this situation) should have been selected to the ASG and then replaced with a substitute pitcher. Suppose a guy has an All-Star Game selection bonus in his contract and he doesn’t get selected simply because Sunday is his scheduled day in the rotation – this is an out-of-pocket punishment and a bunch of crap. La Russa blew this one BAD!

And you tell me how the Fat Panda deserves to be the starting third baseman over David Wright – this one isn’t even close. This is exactly why I will never again vote for the All-Star Game unless each person is only allowed to vote one time.

BUT WAIT… THERE’S MORE! – This is a MUST READ from the Orange County Register blog site:

A new rule this year allows pitchers who start the Sunday before to throw on a pitch count in the All-Star Game if they choose. (Texas manager Ron) Washington seemed confident that if he has a few of his choices throwing Sunday, they would help him get a few batters out if needed. It makes a lot more sense. Justin Verlander started Sunday last year and was not allowed to pitch in the All-Star Game, yet he threw a bullpen session prior to the game. This year, a pitcher can throw what amounts to a bullpen session during the game.

The Dodger should have a lot more player in the game.

One voter – one vote. That has always been my thought, right Linda.
