Best Player On The Planet

Thirty-year-old future Hall of Fame infielder/outfielder Mookie Betts is good at baseball.

Very good.

Exceptionally good.

Alienlike good.

In fact, according to Dodgers manager Dave Roberts, Mookie Betts is the best player on the planet right now.

“He’s just, he’s locked in. He’s in the zone, you know,” Roberts said of Betts, following his team’s 9-3 pounding of the Cleveland Guardians at Progressive Field on Thursday afternoon. “You know, he’s…. yeah, he’s just seeing it really well, he’s playing great baseball. You know, it doesn’t matter the score, it’s just every at-bat is just is just a fight, and more times than not, he’s coming out, you know, winning that battle.

“It’s fun to watch and I think a lot of guys are seeing that intensity, and I really give credit, a lot of credit in the sense that just that very intentional with every at-bat, and Mookie’s really taken to that and, you know, you can see he’s… right now I think he’s the best, you know, player on the planet right now,” Roberts added.

Betts went 7-for-8 in his last two games, including going 5-for-5 in Wednesday’s rain-delayed game, which finally ended on Thursday afternoon. (SportsNet LA)

In the Dodgers just concluded three-game series against the Guardians, Betts went an alienlike 9-for-11 (.818), with two doubles, three RBIs, four runs scored, one strikeout, and two walks. Since August 1, he has raised his batting average 31 points from .279 to .310.

In the event that our beloved National Pastime is played on some other planet, Mookie Betts may very well be the best player in the universe.

We all know there are major league players and it is DAMN hard to get there and stay there.

There are All Star players, there are Hall-of-DAMN-GOOD players for awhile like Orel was a few years. Then there are Hall of Famers and even among them there are those that rise to a level above.

Right now Mookie is playing like one of those. A legendary player. A player that even the HoF’ers revere like Joe DiMaggio, Hank Aaron and Willie Mays to mention only a few. If Mookie keeps playing like he is he may end up being one of that tiny club.

    And he Bowls 300!
