“There’s Still A Lot More In There”

The Dodgers beat the Minnesota Twins at Dodger Stadium on Tuesday night by a score of 10-3. They did so on 15 hits, including a season-tying eight doubles and a solo home run in the bottom of the third inning by suddenly red hot Dodgers third baseman Max Muncy, who is coming off the worst slump of his seven-year major league career.

After the game, the 31-year-old Midland, TX native was asked about his recent – and very welcomed – power surge.

“It feels really good,” Muncy said, after his 2-for-5 night that included a double and his 12th home run of the season. “As I said the other day, it’s a little bit of a relief for me. All the work I’m putting in finally paying off a little bit. But I got to keep at it, I can’t think that I’m out of it yet. I still got a lot of work to do.

“As far as tonight, just finally not missing pitches that I’ve been missing all year. I think that’s been the biggest thing,” Muncy added.

It gets better.

When asked if he thought the Dodgers were “firing on all cylinders” right now, Muncy answered with what Dodgers fans will love hearing.

“Scary enough, I think there’s still a lot more in there for the whole team, but it’s been looking really good lately,” Muncy answered sincerely. “We’ve been looking good all year long, yet at the same time, not all of us have gotten going at once. So, hopefully we’ll save that in the playoffs. But right now, we’re just taking it one day at a time and we’re playing the game today.”

Dodgers center fielder Cody Bellinger‘s slump also appears to be in the past. After his two-home-run game on Sunday, Bellinger went 1-for-4 on Tuesday night with this two-run double in the bottom of the second inning to give the Dodgers a then 3-1 lead.

When Dodgers manager Dave Roberts was told of Muncy’s comment about there being “a lot more in there” and was asked if he felt this way too, or if this was being a little greedy, the Dodgers skipper didn’t miss a beat with his answer.

“I like being greedy, I like that, I like that mindset,” Roberts answered with a grin. “It’s guarding against some complacency. You look at collectively, we’re doing a lot of good things, but I’m sure you can kind of poke holes in a couple guys that aren’t red hot right now. But one through nine, it just seems like every guy up there feels like they’re going to get a hit, and as a manager, that’s a really good feeling.

“I do think, though, that this is the first time all year we’ve had nine guys that feel pretty confident when they get in the batters box,” Roberts added.

With their win on Tuesday night, the Dodgers extended their current winning streak to nine games.

…with “still a lot more in there.”
