Have A Night, Trevor Story

Make no mistake about it, ThinkBlueLA.com is every bit a Dodgers-based blogsite. But with the team having Thursday off as a travel day before opening a 10-game road trip that will take them through Philadelphia, Washington DC, and Phoenix, there wasn’t much Dodgers news to talk or write about on.

But Major League Baseball being what it is, there is always (or at least usually) something going on with ‘America’s National Pastime.’

On Thursday, May 19, 2022, that something (or someone) was 29-year-old Boston Red Sox second baseman Trevor Story, who etched his name in baseball history with a 4-for-4 night, with three home runs, seven RBIs, four runs scored, a stolen base, a four-pitch walk (go figure), and 13 total bases.

Again, make no mistake about it; I am absolutely positively not a Boston Red Sox fan, not by any measure. But to accomplish what the Irving, TX native and first-round draft pick in 2011 by the Colorado Rockies out of Irving High School did on Thursday night is simply impossible to ignore.

Dodgers fans are all too familiar with Story. In his (thus far) seven-year MLB career, six were with the NL West Division rival Colorado Rockies. And even though his career numbers against the Dodgers aren’t as good as they are against most other teams – regardless of division or league – he is one of those guys who always seemed to be a thorn in their side.

In his combined 79 games against the Dodgers (74 games started), Story has slashed only .233/.290/.443 for a mediocre .732 OPS. (An OPS of .800 or higher puts a player in the upper echelon of hitters, with the MLB leader usually finishing around the 1.000 mark). He has also hit 12 home runs, two triples, and 20 doubles against them while driving in 32 runs. For good measure, he has also stolen six bases against the Dodgers while being caught five times.

Regardless of how much you like or dislike another team or a specific player on another team, as a fan of the game, it is impossible not to acknowledge and admire what Trevor Story accomplished on May 19, 2022 for the Boston Red Sox against the Seattle Mariners.

Now…
