Regardless of age, every Dodger fan has a favorite. It might be a current player – like future Hall of Famer Clayton Kershaw, Justin Turner, or Chris Taylor – or one from the Dodgers’ storied history – like Hall of Famers Sandy Koufax, Don Drysdale, or the great Jackie Robinson. But if you were to ask any Dodger fan who their most beloved Dodger of all time was, the overwhelming answer would most likely be Hall of Fame Dodgers manager Tommy Lasorda, who passed away one year ago on Friday at the age of 93.
There is no disputing that Lasorda’s rambunctious cheerleader-style type of managing did not appeal to everyone. But there is also no disputing that his remarkable 1,599-1,439 (.526) managerial record over his even more remarkable 22 major-league seasons – all with the Dodgers – was absolutely Cooperstown-worthy.
Although there are far too many to even begin to list, here is one of Lasorda’s more famous quotes that clearly showed who he was and his managerial style:
“About the only problem with success is that it does not teach you how to deal with failure.”
He also (often) said:
“I bleed Dodger blue and when I die, I’m going to the big Dodger in the sky”
These are only two of the many posts that flooded social media on Friday:
You are missed and forever in our hearts, Tommy.
