The Dodgers were robbed … and it was the perfect crime.
After an improbable/impossible (as Vin would say) three-run home run by Dodgers pinch-hitter Austin Barnes with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning on Friday night to turn a 5-2 deficit into a 5-5 tie, the Dodgers came a half-inch shy of walking it off when new Dodger and 21-year-MLB veteran and future Hall of Famer Albert Pujols hit a game-winning home run over the wall in left field.
…and then it wasn’t
Instead, San Francisco Giants left fielder Mike Tauchman reached over the wall with his glove to make an improbable/impossible home-run-robbing catch to keep the game knotted at five. And even though there is zero love lost between the Dodgers and the Giants, it was a spectacular catch.
“I thought Albert got it,” Barnes told reporters after the game, which the Giants ended up winning after scoring three unanswered runs in the top of the 10th. “The dugout was about to go crazy. It would have been fun. Great swing, but great play.”
“I thought Albert walked him off,” said Dodgers manager Dave Roberts. “That would have made it really special tonight. But wasn’t to be.”
We was robbed!
Play Ball!
