Dodgers Make AFL Roster Addition

Just two days before the 2019 Arizona Fall League season opener, some roster changes have been made for the Glendale Desert Dogs.

Four players have been removed from the roster while five new players have been added, including another Dodgers prospect. Justin Yurchak will now be joining the team in Glendale after splitting the 2019 season between Ogden and Great Lakes.

The 23-year-old third baseman and Clifton Park, NY native was originally selected by the White Sox in the 12th round of the 2017 MLB First-Year Player Draft out of State University of New York in Binghamton but was traded to the Dodgers in 2018 in exchange for left-hander Manny Bañuelos.

Yurchak played in 26 games with the Pioneer Rookie League Ogden Raptors, posting a .365 batting average during that time. He also had a 1.194 on-base plus slugging percentage (OPS) while walking 26 times and hitting eight home runs, eight doubles and driving in 31 runs.

With the Low Single-A Great Lakes Loons, Yurchak had a .292 batting average in 38 games, with five home runs, 11 doubles, and 15 RBI.

Overall, Yurchak had a combined – and outstanding – .996 fielding percentage in 2019, while helping turn 46 double plays.
