Things that make you #smh (shake my head)

Make no mistake about it, old-school baseball guys will be shaking their heads over this one.

Late last week it was announced that in an attempt to not offend those with disabilities, Major League Baseball will now refer to the ages-old ‘Disabled List’ as the ‘Injury List.’

“In recent years, the commissioner has received several inquiries regarding the name of the ‘Disabled List,'” said MLB senior director of league economics and operations Jeff Pfeifer. “The principal concern is that using the term ‘disabled’ for players who are injured supports the misconception that people with disabilities are injured and therefore are not able to participate or compete in sports.

“As a result, Major League Baseball has agreed to change the name ‘Disabled List’ to be the ‘Injured List’ at both the major and minor league levels,” Pfeifer added. “All standards and requirements for placement, reinstatement, etc., shall remain unchanged. This change, which is only a re-branding of the name itself, is effective immediately.”

While I most certainly mean no disrespect to anyone with a disability, this is taking political correctness a bit too far – in my humble old-school opinion.

Then again, it could have been worse … a LOT worse. In addition to having an ‘Injured Reserved (IR) List’, the NFL also has a ‘Physically Unable to Perform (or PUP) List’, so the MLB has that going for them.

I wish they would have at least changed it to a name that rolled off the tongue a little easier. At least the NFL’s “pup list” could be fun to say. I guess we could start referring to “going on the IL” as “going to Illinois.” I’m not sure how Illinois would feel about that….

    Agreed, Silly PC BS.

What’s next, getting rid of the “Old-Timers Game”?

It has supported the misconception that us old timers can’t “participate or compete” in MLB. I still do it all the time in my dreams.

How about the Dodgers have a PUP list for all the Dodger wannabes who are physically unable to perform at the major league level, not to mention minor league for me.

Chill out gentlemen. It’s not politically correct, it’s just correct. They’re injured so they are not able to play.

If people with true disabilities have requested the clarification, what the hell do we care if the Commissioner acknowledges their request and makes this extremely minor change?

Why the hell do we care? It’s just correct?

Obviously you haven’t given a moments thought or shown any concern to all the “injured” people that will now be triggered by this major OFFENSIVE change.

It’s not surprising that someone who uses insensitive gender-specific terms could be so uncaring. Wake up it’s 2019.

I hope you will take this admonition in the right way. I’ve been injured, like many others, and your piling on is deeply hurtful.

My only goal here is tolerance and respect for other people, not suffocating insincerity.
