Dodgers renew four minor league affiliates

The Dodgers have announced that they have renewed their working agreement with the Oklahoma City Dodgers, Tulsa Drillers, Rancho Cucamonga Quakes and the Great Lakes Loons. The announcement was made jointly by Los Angeles Dodgers President and CEO Stan Kasten and Director of Player Development Brandon Gomes.

The OKC Dodgers, who clinched the PCL American North division title on Monday with a 75-65 record, have been the Dodgers Triple-A affiliate for the past four seasons. Oklahoma City has clinched its third division title in the last four seasons including winning the conference title in 2016.

The Double-A Tulsa Drillers clinched their second straight appearance in the Texas League Playoffs on August 31, which is also their fifth in the last seven years. After four years partnering with Los Angeles, Tulsa will have the opportunity to win its first Texas League Championship since the 1998 season. All-time, the Drillers franchise has won three TL titles while the city of Tulsa has won eight total Texas League crowns, with the first coming in 1936.

The Dodgers advanced Single-A affiliate Rancho Cucamonga Quakes had a historic 2018 season, setting a new franchise record in single-season wins with 81 wins, surpassing the 2011 club that finished the year 80-60. The eight-year Dodgers High-A affiliate also set a new franchise record with 15 consecutive wins during late June and early July, and three-year Quakes manager Drew Saylor became the franchise’s all-time winningest manager, setting that new mark with the Quakes win over their primary rivals the Lancaster JetHawks on August 10 with his 224th win as the Quakes skipper. Saylor would tack on another 18 wins before season’s end to bring his continuing new record mark to 242 wins … and counting. The 2018 season also saw infielder Rylan Bannon voted as the 2018 California League Most Valuable Player and Rookie of the Year, marking the second consecutive season that a Quakes player won both awards. Current Tulsa Driller DJ Peters also did so in 2017.

Rylan Bannon, who was named the 2018 California League MVP and Rookie of the Year, was a key piece in the trade that brought All-Star shortstop Manny Machado to the Dodgers prior to the July 31 trade deadline.

The Great Lakes Loons have been the Dodgers Low Single-A partner since the team’s inception in 2007. The Loons also clinched their playoff berth in the 2018 Midwest League Playoffs this week, after finishing the season 36-33.

Phooey – there went my glimmer of hope that we would get the Dodgers back to Las Vegas in the Spring with the opening of our brand new stadium.
