On the day that the Dodgers officially dedicated Vin Scully Avenue, they also announced that the 7:10 pm (PT) game on Friday, September 23 against the Colorado Rockies will be Vin Scully Appreciation Day at Dodger Stadium. And if ever there were a must-be-at game, this would be it.

Although the Dodgers didn’t say what Vin Scully Appreciation Day will entail, you can bet it will be good. And it’s certainly no coincidence that the September 23 date falls exactly three days after Vin Scully Bobblehead Night, which will take place on Tuesday, September 20, when the Dodgers host the San Francisco Giants at 7:10 pm. And while this late-season game against the Giants in and of itself pretty much assures a sell out, the fact that it’s Vin Scully Bobblehead Night makes it a slam dunk.

During Tuesday’s Vin Scully Avenue dedication ceremony, the Hall of Fame broadcaster spoke to a gathering of fans that hovered somewhere around 1,500, telling them that they were the reason why he has enjoyed his job for 66 years. And in spite of the crowd chanting “One more year … One more year … One more year”, Scully told them that after much consideration, this would be his 67th and final season behind the microphone.

“I’ve done enough, I have said almost everything, I still have this year left again, God willing,” said Scully. “And maybe on the final day of my final broadcast I’ll somehow come up with some magic words that you deserve. As for now, I have only two magic words – thank you.”
