Giants fans are in for a surprise on Saturday – 294 of them

When you hear the term ‘Stadium Takeover,’ one thing and only one thing immediately comes to mind – Pantone 294, the extremely well-organized Dodgers-based fan group that shows up – en masse – and literally takes over an opposing team’s home ballpark … at least in spirit and in noise. In fact, Dodger fans watching away games on television or listening on radio when the Pantones are in town will see and hear them far more than they will see and hear the locals.

They’ve done it at Petco Park in San Diego, Chase Field in Phoenix, and Safeco Field in Seattle. Heck, they’ve even done it in The House That Ruth Built in New York (albeit the new one), among many other MLB ballparks. And when they show up, usually with upwards of 750 die-hard (and very loud) Dodger fans, they absolutely refuse to be intimidated by the hometown fans.

Yankees fans were shocked when 1,311 Pantone 294 members showed up and took over Yankee Stadium on September 12, 2016, especially when they unfurled their giant LA banner … and it was GREAT!

Well guess where Pantone 294 will be on Saturday, September 29? Yep, at the unfriendly confines of AT&T Park in San Francisco for the middle game of a three-game series against The Hated Ones for the Dodgers final series of the 2018 regular season.

“We’re gonna clinch that day,” said a very optimistic Alex Soto, president and CEO of what is arguably Major League Baseball’s single-largest fan group. “There will be 750-plus in our group in addition to many more who didn’t get a ticket with us.”

Soto’s popular group are no strangers to the home ballpark of the Dodgers most-hated rivals. In fact, their very first organized group trip was to AT&T Park on September 12, 2009, when Soto and 55 of his closest Dodger-fan friends chartered a bus and traveled to The City by the Bay to take in a game against the Giants (the Dodgers won 10-3). Little did Soto or anybody else know at the time that his then unnamed group would soon become the talk of the baseball world, and not just the Dodgers baseball world.

“Dodger fans travel well,” Dodgers manager Dave Roberts has said on numerous occasions. “I know the players appreciate it. When they see [the Pantone 294] unfurl that giant LA banner, it fires them up. I know the hometown fans don’t like it, but we love it!”

You have been warned, Giants fans … your house is our house now.

  1. That Pantone 294 LA banner is a wonderful site to see in a visiting ballpark. I’ll never forget that day at Yankee Stadium.

Clearly, the best fans of the best fans in baseball.

  3. Bob says:

Well, Nats wimp out. Meanwhile the Giants go overboard with Bummer available in relief yesterday and today. Of course, that’s more about Bummer’s overblown ego.
I’m hoping he does come in and the Dodgers rock him! A fine farewell to San Francisco.
