The Dodgers have reinstated left-handed reliever Scott Elbert from the disabled list and optioned infielder/outfielder Elian Herrera to Triple-A Albuquerque. Herrera appeared in just two games during his six-day recall, going 1-for-3 at the plate.
Elbert had been on the disabled list since July 26 with left elbow inflammation and made three rehab appearances with Double-A Chattanooga, striking out all six batters he faced in 2.0 innings. Prior to going on the DL, Elbert had made nine consecutive scoreless appearances (8.0 IP) and overall was 1-1 with a 2.45 ERA in 39 games.
No surprise here. Finding a spot on the 25-man roster for Ted Lilly is going to be a little more difficult – unless the Dodgers do the right thing and DFA Uribe. (I still think that Uribe has some serious dirt on Ned Colletti. Why else would Ned keep him?).
Having watched most of the Dodgers interacting with each other away from the field (in the lounge at the hotel) I am guessing that Uribe is being kept on because his teammates really like him and he seems to be a catalyst to bring them together. Plus, he got a big walk today, didn’t he?
You know you suck when you can’t even get Juan Uribe out.
We do have roster problems. To DFA Uribe to make a place for Lilly on the 25 man roster would give us 14 pitchers and 11 position players. We presently have thirteen pitchers. My guess, Tolleson goes down. Lilly would make six starters. I don’t know if not pitching at RC yesterday was a travel problem or a possible medical setback.
Quakes manager Juan Bustabad said that he was informed just prior to game time that Ted Lilly would not be there and wasn’t given an explanation as to why.
