by Ron Cervenka Although it’s still early (as we are so often reminded), Dave Roberts now has one full spring training and 13 regular season games under his belt as the Dodgers’ new manager. From what you’ve seen thus far, how would you rate his overall performance using a letter grade?

“A” for me “thus far” because: relative to on-field leadership for last several years which I characterized as aloof; significant improvement with player interaction and relationships; aggressive style of play, less emphasis on home runs; capitalizing on player flexibility with lineup changes; so far, backs his players — no one thrown under-the-bus “thus far.”
I gave him a “B” because I have not seen many Dodger games on the west coast. Will have a better look while the Dodgers are in Atlanta.
Also I figure with a “B” it will allow me to upgrade to an “A” which is perhaps fitting from what I have been reading.
I would not give him an A because he took over a first place team.
B only because I want to reserve judgement for a larger sample size. My only complaint so far was when he had Hernandez bunting late in the game.
And I have no clue why OBF withholds an A for that reason.
This is, hands down, the dumbest thing I have ever heard. Talk about clueless.
I have to laugh at the D’s and F’s. To vote this way without leaving a comment suggests that they are nothing but trolls.
Joe you’ve peaked my curiosity!! If it’s not an A what’s it going to be??? Don’t be wishy washy, just lay it on out there!
I’m not sure why taking over a first place team disqualifies him from getting an A? Wait a minute, aren’t…the…Dodgers….in….first….place????? Hmmmmmmmm
Oh well at any rate I’ll give my opinion and say a B+! That way he can have a little room for improvement, AND if he screws up real bad I can down grade him!

OK fellow fans, I have yet to read one reasonable argument why Roberts deserves a “B” (or lower) rather than an “A” thus far in the season. ?
I think he’s doing wonders with a depleted lineup, and it appears that the overall team attitude is excellent. I guess I’m just reluctant to give an A after just 14 games. Were finer options available, I’d have given Doc either a B+ or an A-. I liked Donnie Baseball as a person, and thought he was a decent motivator, but I deplored his strategies and personnel decisions and would have given him a C-for his work in LA. I’d like to see this poll run again around the all-star break when they’ll be a greater body of work to analyze.
(Incidentally, Donnie isn’t doing so well in Miami, is he?)
The key for me in the question is performance “thus far.” I thought Roberts did a terrific job in ST beginning the process of building a cohesive team and changing the offensive approach of a group that was previously focused on hitting home runs. I watch him in the dugout interacting with players during a game which I believe is a critical competency of leadership. I will also admit that I am biased. From what I had read about Roberts I was pulling for him to get the manager position over all of the other candidates. Now, we should have the same poll around the All Star break and then after the season (including post season).

Donnie Baseball is Loria’s “yes” man.
I like Roberts’ ability motivate those around him for the greater good of team performance. And what he’s done with Yasiel Puig is legendary; a lost-cause that has been shown the light of professional baseball.
Just to satisfy Kevin’s curiosity I gave Robert’s a B. I think Roberts is doing a good job, especially for a first year manager, but the Dodgers don’t seem to be playing any different yet.
So you’re saying you haven’t noticed an improvement in Puig, Pederson, Kiké, Turner or Seager? And you’re saying that the rotation is the same as last season?
