Dodgers utility outfielder/first baseman Scott Van Slyke completed his second rehab game with the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes on Sunday and again came away without any issues.
“It feels good. It feels like I’m really really close to where I need to be,” Van Slyke said after the game.
Whereas Van Slyke was used as the designated hitter on Saturday night for six innings, he played seven innings in left field on Sunday and is scheduled to play first base on Monday in what will most likely be his final rehab assignment before rejoining the Dodgers when they return home on Wednesday.
“Tomorrow I’ll be ready here [in Rancho Cucamonga] and then a day off Tuesday and then I’ll be ready to go.”
Through his first two rehab games with the Quakes Van Slyke is 2 for 7 with a double, a walk, a strikeout and two runs scored. And although he made only one fly ball put out on Sunday, he said that his defense was never affected by his back inflammation.
“Defense, throwing, running was never an issue, just the weight of the bat,” said Van Slyke.
