For the 30% of Dodger fans who actually get SportsNetLA on Time Warner Cable, you might want to set aside (about) 15 minutes of your time this afternoon when the Dodgers and SportsNetLA will air Vin Scully’s press conference announcing his plans to return to the Dodger Stadium booth in 2015 for an unprecedented 66th season. The presser will be televised live on a special edition of “Access SportsNet: Dodgers” at 3:45 PM and will be hosted by John Hartung and 16-year MLB veteran and former Dodger Jerry Hairston Jr. from the SportsNet LA studio.
The announcement of Scully’s return for the 2015 season came as “Breaking News” on Dodger Stadium’s state-of-the-art video boards during the second inning of Tuesday night’s game between the Dodgers and Atlanta Braves. And although it was a little silly (but fun), the message was music to the ears of Dodger fans spanning nearly three-quarters of a century.
“It is very difficult to say goodbye,” said Scully in a written statement after Tuesday night’s announcement. “God willing I will be back next year. Over the years I have been blessed to have so many friends including those that sit in the stands and listen as well as those at home, who listen and watch. It is just too hard to say goodbye to all these friends. Naturally there will come a time, when I will have to say goodbye, but I’ve soul-searched and this is not the time.”

No matter how the season plays out having Vin back is just about the biggest bonus possible for Dodger fans. He is still on top of his game and must do a great deal of preparation for his broadcasts.
He is definitely not a homer and keeps his opinions to himself. He is the ultimate professional.
