If you would have told people at the beginning of the 2014 season that the Los Angeles Dodgers, the team that went on a historic 42-8 run just last season with winning streaks of six games, four games, five games, six games, four games, five games and ended with a 10-game winning streak, would be without even one single four-game winning streak on July 29, 2014, you would have been labeled as nuts – yet this is exactly the case.
To add insult to injury, there is only one other team in all of baseball without a four-game winning streak. No, it’s not the last place Texas Rangers, Chicago Cubs, Colorado Rockies or even the Houston Astros – it’s the Arizona Diamondbacks. Every other team has at least one four-game winning streak and 27 teams have two or more. As you might expect, the Detroit Tigers have the most four-game winning streaks at 16 followed by the Oakland As with 15.
The Dodgers have won three games in a row eight times this season, yet they have zero winning streaks of four or more and are still in first place in the NL West and are currently tied with the Milwaukee Brewers for the most wins in the National League with 59. They currently trail only the Oakland As and the Angels of Anaheim with 65 and 63 wins respectively for the most wins in all of baseball.
The saving grace for the Dodgers is that, ironically, they have not lost more than three games in a row all season either which, when you think about it, is rather amazing. In fact, they are the only team in all of baseball without a four-game losing streak. The Angels, As and Cardinals each have one four-game losing streak and the Nationals two. Interestingly, the Tigers have four four-game losing streaks and even one five-game losing streak. It should come as no surprise that the Rangers lead the pack with 16 four-game losing streaks.
Heading into play tonight the Dodgers have completed 34 series thus far this season of which they have won 18, lost 14 and split two. And while they have done so without the luxury of even one four-game winning streak, this proves that you can lead and even win a division if you win more series than you lose regardless of not having a prolonged winning streak. Of course, it also helps when you sweep an occasional series, which the Dodgers have done five times thus far this season – none more important than this past weekend’s three-game sweep of the Giants at AT&T Park.
Will this be it? Will the Dodgers finally win four in a row? Obviously Dodger fans hope so, but the bottom line is that even if they do not, as long as they continue to win series, there will be October baseball in L.A. – and that’s a good thing.

@Think_BlueLA I hope so. Harang has been solid minus his last two starts, and hopefully Beckett can toss 7 good innings tonight,
@Think_BlueLA Harang actually was solid his last two starts as well.

I’ll take streaks of 3 wins and 1 loss the rest of the way home!
I’m going out on a limb and saying tonight will be the night the Dodgers have their first 4 game winning streak. I have no facts to back that up, it’s just a feeling.
The most important thing is the Dodgers are in first place, even though they haven’t won more than 3 in a row.
OK, we got our four, I wouldn’t mind at all if we make it 5…how about 6?!!!
