Too Close For Comfort

It wasn’t a ball or strike close call, or a safe or out close call. It was a brush-with-death close call, and it was absolutely terrifying for anyone who saw it in person at Camelback Ranch, watched it live on SportsNet LA, or saw it later on every major news channel. It was a 106-MPH line-drive comebacker off the bat of former Dodger and current Chicago Cubs first baseman Michael Busch that drilled Dodgers right-hander Bobby Miller on the forehead above his right eye during Thursday’s Spring Training game between the Dodgers and Cubs at CBR.

Thankfully, the 25-year-old Elk Grove Village, IL native and Dodgers first-round draft pick in 2020 out of the University of Louisville never lost consciousness and was able to walk off the field unassisted.

“It squared him up pretty good,” Dodgers manager Dave Roberts told reporters postgame. “It was kind of the front side of the head, and you can just see the distance that it traveled once it hit. So there was some deflection, but it hit him pretty flush,” added the Dodgers skipper.
