Keeping It in the Family

When you peruse the list of the Dodgers 24 non-roster invitees to Spring Training 2025 and in addition to 23-year-old international superstar right-hander Roki Sasaki, there is one other name that jumps out at you. It is, of course, that of 24-year-old right-hander Jared Karros, who was selected by the Dodgers in the 16th round out of UCLA in 2022.

Jared is the son of former Dodgers first baseman Eric Karros, who also attended UCLA and spent 14 seasons in The Bigs (12 with the Dodgers), during which he was named the National League Rookie of the Year and won a Silver Slugger 1992. Eric finished fifth in NL MVP voting in 1995 and finished his career with a respectable .268/.324/.454/.779 slash line that included 284 home runs and 1,027 RBIs. Eric currently serves as a broadcaster/analyst for Spectrum SportsNet LA.

Prior to becoming a broadcaster/analyst for Spectrum SportsNet LA, Eric worked with fellow current SportsNet LA broadcaster Joe Davis at Fox Sports. (Tim Galloway)

Welcome (back) to the Dodgers family, Jared!

Thanks Ron for bring the young Karros to ThinkBlue LA. I have followed is progression through the Dodgers minor league system. Currently, the Dodgers no. 22 prospect who doesn’t blow hitters away with fastball, but it appears that his height (6′ 7″) gives him leverage and release point closer to home plate than many of his fellow prospects. He will be challenged to be a starter for the Dodgers, but so far he has exceeded expectations for an older, 16th round draft pick. Moved up to Double-A late last season and had impressive stats. A good showing this spring and he could be playing at Triple-A OKC this season.
