It was never a matter of If, but When.
That When came late Tuesday evening with MLB Trade Rumors’ report on X.com that the Dodgers had signed soon-to-be (on December 4th) 32-year-old veteran left-hander Blake Snell to a lofty five-year / $182 million contract that includes a reported $60 million in deferred money. (This is why Dodgers President of Baseball Operations Andrew Friedman is considered the best in the business).
Over his nine Major League seasons, the Seattle, WA native and first-round draft pick in 2011 by the Tampa Bay Rays out of Shorewood High School in Shoreline, WA owns a solid 76-58 record with an impressive 3.12 ERA. He is also the proud owner of two Cy Young Awards, is a two-time MLB ERA title holder, and was an All-Star in 2018 while with the Rays.
That’s the good news.
The not-so-good news is that Snell spent the last four seasons in the National League West (three with the Padres and last season with the Giants), going 29-25 and 5-3 respectively against the Dodgers.
Fortunately, the Dodgers will no longer have to face the crafty southpaw.
Play Ball!

Happy with this signing. I hope this does not take Buehler off the table for the Dodgers. Need to get a deal done for Teo or Adames, preferably both. Bringing back Treinen would also be nice.
Also extend Edman.
Yes across the board.
I think we need t2!!!!
Teo and Treinin and take a knap
Wonder if the deciding factor was making certain that San Diego or Arizona did not sign him — hate to face Snell in the deciding game of the NLCS. Dodgers yet to sign Kershaw and Fangraphs already projects a $311M payroll in 2025. I don’t think Adames is a SS option at this point (if he ever was), perhaps not even for Teoscar.
Not signing Kershaw (yet) is rather interesting, but very Friedman-like. I’m beginning to think that Andrew has already moved on from him.
I think the Dodgers and Kersh have an agreement and are waiting until Spring Training to start when they can put injured players on the IL. It keeps space on the 40 man open for more additions this winter.
Dodgers have two guys that are probably trade bait. Knack and Bobby Miller. Could get us a corner outfielder that’s decent.
