The Dodgers broke the news late Tuesday morning what a good many Dodger fans have been expecting – that what Dodgers manager Dave Roberts initially told reporters was “forearm tightness“ in the right arm of 25-year-old Dodgers rookie right-hander River Ryan will require a full ligament replacement (Tommy John surgery) to repair.
This from Dodgers beat writer Juan Toribio late Tuesday morning:
“The Dodgers will be without their top pitching prospect for an extended period of time after announcing on Tuesday that right-hander River Ryan will undergo Tommy John surgery. Full Tommy John surgery typically requires a recovery timetable of between 12 and 18 months.”
As you might expect, this is devastating news for the extremely popular Charlotte, NC native and 11th-round draft pick in 2021 out of the University of North Carolina at Pembroke by the San Diego Padres and traded to the Dodgers on March 28, 2022 for utility infielder/outfielder Matt Beaty.
As before, our thoughts and prayers are with River for a complete and speedy recovery.
