As a surprise to no one (except perhaps Dodgers manager Dave Roberts), the Dodgers worst nightmare was confirmed prior to Sunday’s game against the Pittsburgh Pirates, when the Dodgers skipper told reporters that what he had initially described as “forearm tightness“ in the right arm of 25-year-old Dodgers rookie right-hander River Ryan, for which he was expected to be placed on the 15-day Injured List, was actually a season-ending UCL strain for the popular (very) hard-throwing Charlotte, NC native.

“I don’t know the exact diagnosis, but his season is going to be over,” Roberts updated reporters on Sunday afternoon. “I think they’re waiting on some other scans to figure out the exact course of action. Obviously, right now, what I can say, is his season is going to be over.”

“It’s part of the game. It happens,” Ryan told reporters, following his injury-shortened start on Saturday.
