Angels-3 – Ohtani-2

International superstar Shohei Ohtani gave 51,841 Dodgers fans exactly what they came to Dodger Stadium to see on Friday night – his 22nd home run of the season against his former team, the Angels of Anaheim – in Game-1 of what will eventually be four interleague games with their cross-county rivals, affectionately dubbed ‘The Freeway Series,’ which the Angels won by a score of 3-2, with Ohtani driving in both Dodgers runs.

Everyone looked at Ohtani’s monster fifth-inning two-run home run except Angels left-hander Matt Moore, because he knew. (SportsNet LA)

That’s the good news.

The bad news is that the Babe Ruth of our generation got no help from the rest of the Dodgers offense. In fact, of the Dodgers five total hits, Ohtani had two of them.

The Dodgers went a dismal 0-for-6 with runners in scoring position and stranded four runners on base – a painfully familiar tune for a team considered by many to be among the best offensive teams this season.

“He’s playing really good baseball and tonight we just couldn’t support him,” Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said of Ohtani postgame. (SportsNet LA)

Following Game-2 of the annual Freeway Series at Dodger Stadium on Saturday evening, the series will continue at Angel Stadium on Tuesday and Wednesday, September 3 and 4.
