Although it was unofficially announced almost two weeks ago, the Dodgers on Thursday made the signing of 35-year-old outfielder/designated hitter J.D. Martinez official. The deal is for one year at $10 million.
Here is the announcement from the Dodgers (via Twitter) early Thursday afternoon:
As noted, to make room on the 40-man roster for the Miami, FL native and 20th-round draft pick in 2009 by the Houston Astros out of Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, FL, the Dodgers designated 30-year-old right-hander Jake Reed for assignment. The Dodgers had selected Reed off waivers from the Boston Red Sox on November 18, 2022.
Through his (thus far) 12-year MLB career, Martinez owns a healthy .274/.341/.448/.790 slash line, with 282 home runs and 899 RBI. In 2021, the five-time All-Star and three-time Silver Slugger led all of baseball with his 42 doubles.
Welcome to the Dodgers, J.D.!

I hate losing Justin Turner, but JD Martinez is a terrific replacement
