After amassing 10 runs on 15 hits in Friday night’s 10-1 laugher over National League West last place Colorado Rockies at Dodger Stadium followed by six runs on 10 hits in their 6-4 win over them on Saturday night, the NL West Division Champion Los Angeles Dodgers managed only one run on four hits on Sunday afternoon and only one run on six hits on Monday evening, with two games remaining against those same Rockies on Tuesday evening and Wednesday afternoon respectively to end the 2022 regular season.

“They’re playing their tails off, they’re trying to win every game, but I do think that, you know, when you’re sniffing the finish line of the regular season, that little edge might not be quite as finite, but I’m still not concerned with the offense,” Dodgers manager Dave Roberts answered when asked if he is concerned about his team’s suddenly missing offense. “We have a lot of real good players and we’re going to be fine with that.”

Okaaaaay…

It’s probably safe to say that many – perhaps even most – Dodgers fans don’t exactly see it this way. After all, the Dodgers do have the best offense and the Rockies are one of the worst teams in the game today.

That being said, you certainly have to give credit to Rockies manager Bud Black‘s pitching staff over the last two games. Rockies right-handers Germán Márquez and José Ureña were absolute brilliant on Sunday and Monday, allowing a combined two runs and six hits in their respecting six-inning starts, and relievers Justin Lawrence, Daniel Bard, Jake Bird, and Justin Lawrence limited (an unconcerned) Roberts’ team to no runs and only four hits in their combined six relief innings pitched on Sunday and Monday.

The Dodgers only offensive bright spot on Monday night was designated hitter Trayce Thompson‘s third-inning solo home just inside the left field foul pole. It was the 31-year-old Los Angeles, CA native’s career-tying 13th home run of the season, which he also accomplished in 2016 while with the Dodgers. Thompson also singled in the bottom of the fifth inning, prompting Dodgers broadcaster Charley Steiner to say: “Trayce Thompson has now reached base in nine of his last ten at-bats.”

He did not reach base in his 11th.

Needless to say, with exactly two games remaining in the 2022 regular season and only eight days until the 2022 National League Division Series is set to begin at Dodger Stadium, now would be an excellent time for the Dodgers bats to wake up.
