After nearly three months of unbearable anxiety, 36-year-old free-agent third baseman Justin Turner announced on Twitter (through his agent VaynerSports) early Saturday evening that he has re-signed with the Dodgers.

Although there has been no official confirmation from the Dodgers yet, The Athletic‘s Ken Rosenthal reported that, per sources, it is a two-year/$34 million deal with a club option for a third year and includes an $8 million signing bonus. This is pretty much what every Dodger fan on the planet thought it would – and should – be (give or take a few million), and not the guaranteed four-year deal that the popular Long Beach, CA native and seventh-round draft pick in 2006 was seeking.

If the Dodgers hold true to form, fans can expect (or at least hope for) a Zoom press conference with Turner early next week, either from Dodger Stadium or from Camelback Ranch in Glendale, AZ.

But regardless, WELCOME BACK, JT!!!

As a point of note; due diligence should be performed for the inclusion and equity of Justin Turner’s Front.

Did anyone really think JT was out the door? The cost of a four year deal was high and the age-risk involved kept teams from inking a deal. But the return on investment is most apparent in the Dodger clubhouse; leadership is priceless and JT is part of the heart and soul of the Dodgers.

The signing is perfect for any future moves the team may make with regard to who plays third base during the next two years. IMO, and depending on how badly the Cardinals perform this year, Nolan Arenado may still find himself in Dodger Blue at some point in the near future. This would allow JT to become the teams’ full-time DH and part-time utility infielder.

I should have known that it would be you who picked up on the ‘back’ thing.

Although we will never know for sure, Turner (probably) told Andrew Friedman very early in the process that he would agree to a two-year deal but wanted to test the four-year waters elsewhere, which, of course, fell flat (as expected). It was quite apparent from the onset that a four-year deal was akin to wishing in one hand and spitting in the other.

My guess is that Turner and his agent (probably) wanted a third-year player option, which Friedman understandably would not do. That being said, this truly is a good – and fair – deal all the way around.

I also think that knowing that Turner would be back in his clubhouse actually played a part in Friedman’s decision to sign Bauer.
