Haters Gonna Hate

Following the Dodgers ugly 11-1 loss to the San Diego Padres on Tuesday, @MLB Now posted this on social media (X.com):

No seriously, they really did.

Although @MLBNow is a reputable social media site, there may be some – perhaps even many – who see this as yet another anti-Dodgers post. The cold hard truth (and bottom line) is that it’s all about making it to the postseason and winning the World Series, which is hard to do if you aren’t in it.

Although @MLBNow may have a problem with this, it’s probably safe to say that every Dodgers (and baseball) fan is perfectly ok with it. (SportsNet LA)

They picked a bad example to make a point. Kike was the most effective pitcher for Dodgers that game.

If they don’t want this to occur, then institute a mercy rule and give the trailing team the option to concede the game after the 7th inning if they are behind by X amount of runs. I personally don’t have a problem with it the way it is.

While not in favor of “mercy rule” to end blow outs, I am definitely opposed to position players like Kike pitching. I think MLB is living in the past by not having taxi squads like NFL. Perhaps 3 or 4 pitchers and a catcher who travel and practice with the ML team and can be “activated” the morning of any game without using player options or waivers. This would eliminate the need to use position players (other than those designated as two-way players like Ohtani) from being used in blow out games. My theory, pitching injuries would be reduced by allowing teams to give more rest to pitchers without having to option them to minors, or place them on IL. Extra catcher could be activated during a game if a catcher is injured (injured catcher replaced could not play in the next game).

Considering how the regular season has become more of a 162 game series for postseason play, I think games should end in ties after 9 innings to reduce injuries to pitchers arms. Ties would result in a half game won and half game lost for both teams.

    Many issues related to this.
Too many playoff rounds to support revenue. Resulting in over use of pitchers, causing more and more injuries so to protect your staff in the blowout games you use position players on the mound.

But why is that the others teams concern?.
