Taylor Made

Having gone 4-for-16 (.250) with four strikeouts in his first 18 games thus far this season, there are a number of Dodgers fans who wouldn’t be the least bit upset if 34-year-old Dodgers utility infielder/outfielder Chris Taylor were designated for assignment or traded.

Another CT3 strikeout.

To be fair, the Virginia Beach, VA native and fifth-round draft pick in 2012 out of the University of Virginia in Charlottesville by the Seattle Mariners has done an outstanding job on defense in his 10 seasons in Dodger blue, both as an infielder and outfielder.

Taylor’s exceptional defense is a big reason why the Dodger are currently in first place in the NL West. (Marcio Jose Sanchez)

In a nutshell, 31 games into a 162-game season (19.135%) is way too early to write CT3 – or any MLB player – off. In that same nutshell, there is an exceptionally good chance that “We ain’t seen nothing yet” from the extremely popular Dodgers utility man.

CT3 is caught in a RH bench log jam (Betts, Hernandez, Rojas. If he hit from the left side I think he would be given more opportunity at second base in a platoon roll. From what I have read and heard, Taylor is working his tail off to remake his swing that got out of sorts trying to increase launch angle. I don’t think the current hitting coaches connect with every hitter (consider the success Gavin Lux is having for the Reds, and the reports that Teoscar helped Pages more than the hitting coaches).

  2. Stevebendodger says:

Not because he’s tearing it up now but getting rid of Lux was a head scratcher for me. Unless Mookie was going to play 2b.

    • Jesse Pearce says:

Exactly! I think they were planning on Kim taking over 2b, but he crashed and burned in spring training — and still struggling at OKC

  3. OhioDodger says:

Could be a big turnover next year. Taylor, Barnes, Kike, Conforto, and Rojas most likely gone. And Muncy if he doesn’t have a good year. I look forward to it.

  4. Steve says:

Trade for Cedric Mullins for center field.
Pages’ in left, Mullins in center & Teo in right.
Bring up Alex Freeland & give him a try at 3rd.
Move Betts to 2nd and play Edman at shortstop.
Give Rushing playing time at 3rd & left field in Oklahoma City.
If Muncy keeps striking out & struggling defensively as well and
Freeland also struggles at 3rd, Dodgers may have to look at Arenado.

    • Jesse Pearce says:

I’ve liked Mullins for years, but don’t see the O’s trading him. Freeland is a good option, but Dodgers will have to open a spot on the 40 man roster and active roster — one of CT3, Kike, or Rojas would have to leave (or go on 60 day IL). Unless Cardinals keep half of Arenado’s contract and take back Muncy, I don’t see a trade happening. Betts wants to play SS — Dodgers are not going to move him back to 2b — at least not this year.

  5. Stevebendodger says:

I’m in total agreement with you on Betts wanting to play SS. He’s not moving this yr.

Maybe Kim will be ready next yr the latest.
After we win Championship this yr, we can let Ct3, Kiki,Muncy, Comforto, maybe Barnes time to bring up the kids.
Feduccia, the other catcher to back up Will smith, Vreeland and or horse for third base. Couple of the OFers.
