When it was announced on social media late Friday morning that the Dodgers had re-signed 29-year-old utility infielder / outfielder and 2024 postseason hero Tommy Edman to a well-deserved five-year / $74 million contract extension, a collective sigh of relief could be heard throughout the streets of Southern California and from behind computer screens everywhere … except San Francisco, San Diego, Arizona, and Colorado, of course. This from Dodgers beat write Juan Toribio:
“Edman and the Dodgers agreed to a five-year, $74 million extension, the club announced on Friday. Multiple sources confirmed to MLB.com that the deal runs through the 2029 season with a club option in ’30. Edman, who had been signed through 2025 with a two-year, $16.5 million deal from the Cardinals, will receive a $17 million signing bonus.”

That’s the good news.
The less-than-good-news – at least as of this writing – is that extremely popular 32-year-old Dodgers outfielder Teoscar Hernández remains unsigned.

So, too, does the other popular Hernández – Kiké, causing a little anxiety among Dodgers fans.

But as they (whoever ‘they’ are) say: “It’s still early.”

Play Ball!

I hope the Dodgers can get a deal done with Teo. I would also like to see them work out a Taylor and prospect(s) trade for Bellinger in a mutual salary dump.
