As Dodgers fans well know, Oklahoma City has had a longstanding relationship with Minor League Baseball (MiLB), having joined the Pacific Coast League in 1998 and becoming a Dodgers MiLB affiliate in 2015.
On Sunday the team announced that they have changed their team name to the Oklahoma City Comets.
It is the fifth team name in the organization’s rich 62-year history. They were known as the 89ers from 1962-1997, the RedHawks from 1998-2014, the Dodgers from 2015-2023, and the Oklahoma City Baseball Club this past season, during which the finished second in the PCL 9.0 games behind the Sugarland Space Cowboys (Astros).
It sure would be nice if the OKC Comets kick off their inaugural 2025 season with another one of these, wouldn’t it?
