As It Should Be

Although the National League East Division Champion New York Mets made the 2024 National League Championship Series interesting, there was never really much doubt that it would be the NL West Division Champion Los Angeles Dodgers who would represent the National League in the 2024 World Series against the American League Champion New York Yankees beginning on Friday, October 25 at Dodger Stadium.

The Dodgers, who clinched their fourth National League pennant in the last eight seasons with their decisive 10-5 win over the Mets in front of a Dodger Stadium crowd of 52,674 on Sunday evening, took four of six in the best-of-seven series from the “Amazin‘ Mets,” as they were once called. And even though blazing hot Dodgers shortstop Tommy Edman drove in four of those 10 Dodgers runs with his 2-for-5 night and remarkable 11-for-27 (.407) series with 11 RBI to capture series MVP honors, it was Dodgers catcher Will Smith‘s third-inning two-run 416-foot home run to center field that drove what would prove to be the Dodgers sixth and game-winning run.

But Sunday’s – and the entire NLDS and NLCS – Dodgers wins were every bit a full team effort.

“They proved to themselves how tough they are,” a proud Dodgers manager Dave Roberts told reporters postgame “When you get in the position that we were in against a division rival [the San Diego Padres], it turns into a street fight. It’s lose and go home, or you fight like heck. I think that’s what got us over the top in the DS and also what allowed us to finish [the Mets] off in six games,” added the Dodgers skipper.

As noted above, Roberts’ team will face Yankees in the 2024 World Series beginning on Friday evening at Dodger Stadium. It will be the 12th time that the two storied franchises have squared off against each other in the World Series:

Although the other 28 MLB teams will strongly disagree, a Dodgers-Yankees World Series just seems right and how it’s supposed to be.

We will never know for certain, but I think MLB and TV were hoping for Dodgers – Yankees World Series. East Coast v West Coast, tradition of Dodgers Yankees — $$$$$$$$$$$$$. Even more coming from the Japanese viewers. The Dodgers may recoup more than half of the Ohtani and Yamamoto contracts.

    • Masterful job by Roberts and staff this yr.
Big time change from the past off seasons of 21,22,23.
Ohtani could be one of the best signings
      In history.
Now we reset the Starting Pitchers, bullpen gets a needed rest, maybe we get Vesia back who was missed and maybe Freeman is healthier.
      Go Dodgers.
