Shohei. Again.

Baseball fans waiting (and in the case of opposing fans, hoping) for the incredible historic season that Dodgers international superstar Shohei Ohtani is having to subside – or even slow down a little – are going to have to wait (and hope) another day, week, or perhaps month.

As he has done all season long in what will most likely end with a National League – and MLB – MVP trophy, the 30-year-old Oshu, Japan native had another game-winning hit in the NL West first-place Dodgers 4-3 win over the NL West second place division-rival San Diego Padres in front of another sold out Dodger Stadium crowd, this one at 52,310 (with millions more following on television, radio, and on-line) on Tuesday night.

Ohtani’s sixth-inning two-out single to center with catcher Will Smith on second and shortstop Tommy Edman on first drove in Smith for what would (again) prove to be the game-winning run. For good measure, he also stole his 56th base of the season and came around to score his his MLB-leading 130th run of the season. He also drove in two runs with his fourth-inning double to right. “(I’m) really extremely happy that I was able to score the runs in the opportunities I was given almost every single at-bat today,” Ohtani said postgame through interpreter Will Ireton.

“He’s raised his level of play, but the epitome of it is that (Adrián) Morejón at-bat – gets behind 0-2, takes a couple breaking balls, and hit the ball hard up the middle to drive in a run,” Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said postgame of his future Hall of Famer. “You see the emotion that you never see. I mean, you’ve seen that over the last week, so, he’s sniffing the postseason and understanding how important these games are,” added Roberts.

Don’t stop now, Shohei!

Play Ball!
