It was only a matter of time.
Because of his Ruthian-like seven weeks since being traded to the Dodgers from the St.Louis Cardinals on July 29, teammates Miguel Rojas and Gavin Lux began calling 29-year-old Dodgers utility infielder Tommy Edman “Tommy Tanks,” which quickly caught on in the Dodgers clubhouse and dugout.
In the 22 games that Edman has appeared since joining the Dodgers, the switch-hitting Pontiac, MI native and sixth-round draft pick by the Cardinals in 2016 out of Stanford is 25-for-83 (.301), with four home runs, two doubles, one triple, 12 runs scored, and 13 RBIs. For good measure, he has also stolen five bases and has yet to be caught.
Although the Dodgers lost to the Atlanta Braves by a score of 6-2 in the first of four at Truist Park on Friday, Edman drove in that second run on a sharp single to right in the top of the fourth inning to make it a then 5-2 ballgame.
Unfortunately, the Dodgers could only muster five total hits and went 1-for-4 with runners in scoring position, while leaving three on base. In other words, aside from Edman’s RBI single and a solo home run to left field by Rojas with one out in the top of the third, the rest of the Dodgers offense was Missing in Action – again.
But putting the negativity aside:
Welcome to LA, Tommy Tanks!
Play Ball!
