Dodger fans are blessed to be alive during the Shohei Ohtani era. They are even more blessed that he will (presumably) be wearing a Dodger uniform through the 2033 season.
Simply put, the 30-year-old Oshu, Japan native is our generation’s Babe Ruth … only better.
A bit bold and presumptuous, you say? Perhaps, but consider this: although Ohtani’s current 215 career home runs are still a ridiculous 499 shy of The Babe’s 714 career regular season home runs (with 15 World Series home runs) and 547 shy of Barry Bonds‘ PED-assisted 762 career home runs (with four World Series home runs), his current National League-leading 44 home runs trail single-season home run record-holder Mark McGwire‘s likely PED-assisted 70 home runs he hit during the 1998 regular season by only 26.
Granted, hitting 26 home runs over the Dodgers final 24 regular-season games is a monumental ask of Ohtani, but our generation’s Babe slugged 12 home runs and stole 15 bases in August.
Likely? – Probably not.
Possible? – Absolutely.
…after all, it is our generation’s Babe Ruth we’re talking about here.
Play Ball!

And, Aaron Judge is even better as power hitter and he plays every day in the field. Ohtani’s s stolen bases and pitching sets him apart from all others.
Taking nothing away from Ohtani’s remarkable pitching skills, I personally would prefer that he not pitch at all – except for the fact that the Dodgers are in dire need of starting pitching.
Thankfully, it appears that their bullpen may have turned things around – for now.
