‘The Ohtani Game’

Ask any veteran (old) Dodger fan if they remember ‘The Kirk Gibson Game,’ their answer will either be an emphatic “Yes!” or a quizical (and extremely rare) “Huh?”

Prior to Friday night’s exciting bottom-of-the-ninth Dodgers 7-3 walk-off win over the AL East fourth-place Tampa Bay Rays in front of a Dodger Stadium crowd of 45,556, if you had asked any current Dodger fan if they remember ‘The Shohei Ohtani Game,’ their answer would have been a resounding “Which one?”

Not any more.

As noted in every baseball publication and on every radio and television baseball show and news report, Ohtani’s bases-loaded, two-out, grand slam home run to break (shatter) a 3-3 tie with the Rays, made Dodgers – and MLB – history:

There is a new ‘The Ohtani Game.’

…until the next one.
