The American League’s Ohtani

Almost every night, Dodger fans witness something incredible – if not historic – from international superstar Shohei Ohtani. The 30-year-old Oshu, Japan native leads the National League in home runs (41), runs scored (100), SLG (.625), OPS (.994), and Total Bases (312). For good measure, he leads the Dodgers in At-Bats (507), hits (148), triples (six), RBI (94), walks (69), and is second in doubles (29) behind Freddie Freeman‘s 31. He is also tied with Dodgers outfielder Teoscar Hernández in Games (128).

Ohtani slugged his National League-leading 41st home run of the season against the AL East fourth-place Tampa Bay Rays at Dodger Stadium on Saturday. (MLB.com)

But while our attention is justifiably focused the National League’s version of Babe Ruth, the American League has their own version of The Babe, who is also making history on a near-nightly basis.

I am, of course, referring to 32-year-old New York Yankees superstar outfielder and Linden, CA native Aaron Judge, who is (possibly) on pace to break his own single-season home run record of 62, which he set in 2022, and (possibly) on pace to become the greatest single-season home run hitter of all time.

Judge hit his MLB-leading 50th and 51st home runs against the Colorado Rockies on Saturday. It was his fifth multi-home run game this season and the 39th of his nine-year MLB career.

Granted, there is still a bit of baseball yet to be played (31 games remaining for the Dodgers and 30 games remaining for the Yankees), and more history to be made by the two Babes, but the thought of an Ohtani vs. Judge (Dodgers vs. Yankees) World Series is absolutely intoxicating.
