On Monday night, international superstar Shohei Ohtani slugged his National League-leading 39th home run of the season, a 396-foot solo shot to right-center field, to help the NL West first-place Los Angeles Dodgers to a 2-1 win over the NL Central second-place St. Louis Cardinals at Busch Stadium.
On Wednesday night, Ohtani stole his 39th base of the season in the top of the fifth inning to help his team to an 8-4 win over the American League West second-place Seattle Mariners at Dodger Stadium.
With his 39th home run and 39th stolen base, the Oshu, Japan native and future first-ballot Hall of Famer will, in all probability, become the fasted player in MLB history to hit 40 home runs and steal 40 bases in a season, surpassing seven-time All-Star Alfonso Soriano, who did so in 147 games during the 2006 season while with the Washington Nationals. Ohtani played in his 124th game on Wednesday night.
