First Beaten By Worst

It’s getting old – fast.

Although 2024 Dodgers All-Stars Shohei Ohtani and Teoscar Hernández continue to play at the level that made them All-Stars, the rest of the Dodgers lineup is at – or below – mediocre; in several cases well below mediocre.

During Friday’s ugly come-from-ahead 6-5 loss by the NL West first-place Los Angeles Dodgers to the AL West last place Oakland A’s at the Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts‘ team had an unacceptable – and inexcusable – 11 strikeouts.

“Love the fight, we kept going, umm… you know, strikeouts still… you know, eleven strikeouts against a guy that really doesn’t strike many guys out,” Roberts astutely told SportsNet LA’s Kirsten Watson during his post-game interview. “We just can’t, right now, find ways to build innings, get hits, and umm… you know, it’s hard when you’re not getting hits and… and you’re striking out at the clip we are right now.”

Of those 11 Dodgers Ks, six were by 22-year-old A’s starting right-hander and Lancaster, CA native Joey Estes. Of Estes’ 78 total pitches, 49 were strikes, helping him to his fifth win of the season, with four losses.

Estes’ sixth and final strikeout on Friday night was that of Dodgers left fielder Teoscar Hernández to end the top of the sixth inning with runners on first and second. (SportsNet LA)

As you might expect, that “…striking out at the clip we are right now…” thing caused quite a stir on social media, several of which were a bit too ‘graphic’ to mention. Here are just a few:

Although we all know ‘You can’t win ’em all,’ the Dodgers flat out gave this one away.
