In a game where getting a hit once every three at-bats will likely earn you a plaque in the sacred Halls of Cooperstown and a team winning percentage of .666 will likely earn you a trip to the postseason, the NL West first-place Los Angeles Dodgers taking two of three from the AL East first-place New York Yankees at Yankee Stadium this past weekend wasn’t too shabby.

“I think both teams brought our best and fortunately for us, we won the series,” Dodgers manager Dave Roberts told reporters following his team’s nationally televised 6-4 loss to the Evil Empire. “It was just a good environment all weekend. Good to show well against those guys. They’re a heck of a ballclub.”

‘Show well’ they did, especially 31-year-old Dodgers outfielder Teoscar Hernández, who went an insane 6-for-12 (.500), with three home runs, two doubles, and a remarkable seven RBIs.

Dodgers shortstop Mookie Betts also had a good game on Sunday. Although the 31-year-old .309-hitting Nashville, TN native only went 1-for-5 at the plate, that one was a two-run double to left in the top of the fifth inning to tie the game at 2-2.

Credit where due, 26-year-old Yankees starting right-hander Luis Gil was excellent in his 5.2 innings pitched, limiting the Dodgers to only three runs and five hits, while walking one and striking out five.

Unfortunately, 30-year-old Dodgers starting right-hander Tyler Glasnow wasn’t as fortunate, allowing five runs and eight hits in his six innings of work against the Dodgers 11-time World Series rivals. Although the popular Santa Clarita native and fifth-round draft pick in 2011 out of William S. Hart High School by the Pittsburgh Pirates struck out 12, he walked one and gave up two home runs, including what would prove to be the eventual game-winner – a sixth-inning three-run 394-foot shot to right by Yankees center fielder Trent Grisham – turning a 3-2 Dodgers lead into a 5-3 deficit.

“Yeah, it’s frustrating,” Glasnow said of his fifth loss of the season (with six wins). “I just think a couple pitches tonight were left right in the middle of the zone. Just wish I could have located them a little differently.”

Glasnow has now allowed a team-high 10 home runs this season, and his five earned runs allowed on Sunday were his second-most allowed in a game this season.

After a much-need off-day (for players and fans), the Dodgers begin a six-game interleague homestand, with three against the AL West second-place Texas Rangers and three against the AL Central second-place Kansas City Royals.
