There’s Hot … And Then There’s Teo

According to Cot’s Baseball Contracts, the Dodgers are paying international superstar future Hall of Famer Shohei Ohtani $70 million annually, superstar future Hall of Famer Freddie Freeman $27 million annually, and superstar future Hall of Famer Mookie Betts $25 million for the 2024 season.

According to Cot’s Baseball Contracts, the Dodgers are only paying 31-year-old Cotui, Dominican Republic native outfielder Teoscar Hernández $23.5 million on his one year deal with the Dodgers (yes, that was said tongue in cheek), which he signed on January 7, 2024, with $8.5 million to be paid in 10 installments each July 1st between 2030 and 2039.

In his last three games, Ohtani is 2-for-15 (.133), with no home runs and one RBI.

In his last three games, Freeman is 3-for-11 (.273), with one home run, two doubles, and five RBIs.

In his last three games, Betts is 4-for-11 (.364), with one home run and three RBIs.

In his last three games, Hernández is 7-for-13 (.538), with three home runs and nine RBIs.

On the season Hernández has 15 home runs and 47 RBI, both of which currently lead the team.

In Saturday’s 11-3 Dodgers win over the New York Yankees at Yankee Stadium, Hernández slugged two home runs – a solo shot in the top of the second and a grand slam in the top of the eighth. He also hit into a 6-4 RBI fielders choice in the top of the sixth, thereby driving in six of those 11 Dodgers runs himself.

Teoscar’s eighth-inning grand slam on Saturday was his second home run of the game, his second grand slam of the season, and the fifth grand slam of his nine-year MLB career.

Saturday was also Teoscar’s 18th career multi-home run game and second with the Dodgers. His last was on March 29 against the St. Louis Cardinals at Dodger Stadium.

“This is what he signed up for,” Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said of Teoscar’s remarkable day and series. “He talked about looking forward to this series and playing in Yankee Stadium. There’s certain guys that the moment doesn’t get too big. I talk about that a lot. I don’t know if it’s winter ball, being a veteran, I don’t know if he played in the WBC, but he likes it, and he can certainly temper that heartbeat in a big moment.”

Stay hot, Teo!

He certainly has turned it on in the last 3 days. Picked a great time to get hot again. Hope he can maintain it.
