For those old enough to remember, back when cigarette commercials were still allowed on television, the R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company made famous the slogan “I’d walk a mile for a Camel.” In fact, it’s even in the Smithsonian.
Sorry, R.J., you don’t measure up to Dodgers international superstar Shohei Ohtani. In fact, you’re about ‘a mile’ behind.
With his National League-leading 23rd home run against the Angels of Anaheim on Saturday, a mammoth 459-foot game-winning two-run home run that landed halfway up the Right Field Pavilion in right-center field at Dodger Stadium and his second longest of the season, Ohtani has tallied 9,647 feet in home runs this season. To put this in better perspective, this is a mere 913 feet shy of two miles, and we’re not even to the All-Star break yet.
Ohtani’s 459-footer on Saturday was his second longest at Dodger Stadium this season. He mashed a 464-footer against the Atlanta Braves at The Ravine on May 5th, his second of the game. The first one only went 412 feet.
