When 34-year-old Dodgers right fielder Jason Heyward went on the injured list on April 3 for lower back tightness, the Ridgewood, New Jersey native, one-time All-Star, and five-time Gold Glove outfielder was slashing a very un-Heyward-like .214 / .200 / .214 / .414, with three singles, zero extra base hits, and only two RBIs.
But since his return to action on May 17, the extremely popular 15-year MLB veteran has hit two home runs, one triple, and driven in three runs in the 10 games in which he has appeared. He was, however, still double-less in 2024.
Not anymore.
Although seriously overshadowed by stellar pitching performances by Dodgers starting right-hander Yoshinobu Yamamoto, and relievers Daniel Hudson, Blake Treinen, and closer Evan Phillips, and by a 3-for-4 night by 23-year-old Dodgers rookie sensation outfielder Andy Pages (who ironically was Heyward’s replacement when he went on the IL), it was J-Hey’s two-out line drive double to center field in the bottom of the second inning that drove in the Dodgers second run of the night in their eventual 4-1 win over the Colorado Rockies in front of a sold out Dodger Stadium crowd of 50,182.
Welcome back J-Hey!
